After Rip-Roaring Laughter at NAD Conference, Waltrip Takes Show on Road

[September 19, 2006] – After a vibrant performance at the National Association of the Deaf “Tribute to ASL” event last July, actress/comedienne Vikee Waltrip headed to Wisconsin where she performed for two weeks as part of a mental health awareness campaign. As part of Waltrip’s 2006 tour, she will appear in Oregon, Ohio and Florida within the next two months. “I’m looking forward to seeing both adults and children laughing, especially when I do my improvisations,” Waltrip says. “The improvisations hit people’s funny bones, and pleases me because this world can always use some extra laughter. That’s the whole goal of my road tour, to bring laughter to communities everywhere.”

Waltrip, of Swansea, Ill., is known for her hilarious, outrageously opinionated stand-up comedy routines and performances that rely upon audience participation. She will appear at the Ohio Association of the Deaf conference on Oct. 13, where she will perform her renowned character, a teacher who signs in exaggerated Signed Exact English much to the delight of audience participants. “I’ll be doing short sketches, but that one is a popular act that I really enjoy performing,” Waltrip says. “I’ll also do a lot of improvisation, of course. For each performance, I always try to customize the material to the location and community. That brings a better touch to the performance, and really gets people laughing.” In addition, Waltrip will present team building and leadership workshops.

After Ohio, Waltrip will travel to the Oregon Association of the Deaf mini-conference in Portland on Oct. 20. “Sprint is delighted at this opportunity to sponsor Vikee Waltrip’s opening performance the night before the Oregon Association of the Deaf mini-conference,” says Sprint account manager Damara Paris. “Oregonians will have a chance to experience the highly comedic entertainment of this seasoned performer.”

Waltrip has performed across the nation this year as part of her 2006 tour, including an Elvis-themed performance on New Year’s Eve in California, the National Association of the Deaf conference last summer, and recently, as part of a mental health awareness campaign, in Wisconsin. Included on Waltrip’s itinerary is the Deafest in Orlando on Nov. 4, hosted by the Florida Association of the Deaf.
