GOVERNOR RICK PERRY SIGNS HOUSE BILL (HB) 978!
Governor Rick Perry signed HB 978 into law today, which codifies the
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Amendments Act of 2008 under Texas
Law. This makes it possible for people who suffer adverse employment
action because of a disabling condition, including cancer, diabetes,
epilepsy, to bring suit in Texas courts to obtain reparation. The
changes will take effect September 1, 2009.
Thanks to your support in contacting your State Representatives and
Senators, we were able to win support for HB 978. Also, many thanks to the Diabetes and Epilepsy advocacy communities, the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, the Disabled American Veterans, Advocacy
Inc., Brian East, John Griffin, Jason Smith, State Representative Lon
Burnam, Senator Kirk Watson and TELA for their support and
determination. This shows that we can make a difference by making our
voices heard. Thank you!
