Award Presentation to Cameron County Judge’s Office for Disaster Preparedness Outreach Efforts That Include Deaf/HOH
(It’s primarily focused on Hurricane Dolly ASL-interpreted emergency broadcast efforts)

Additional, subsequent outreach efforts to be showcased following the award presentation that demonstrate the collaborative work between Cameron, Hidalgo & Willacy counties:

  • Regionally-focused DVD-Public Service Announcement (English & Spanish) with ASL interpretation
    Eventually available for media broadcasting and Tri-County (Cameron, Hidalgo, Willacy) Judge’s Division of Emergency Management web posting
  • Hurricane Preparedness Brochure (English & Spanish) in Braille
    Eventually available at Tri-County Judge’s Office & Division of Emergency Management, Dept. of Assisted & Rehabilitative Services offices in Harlingen & McAllen
  • Promotion of Accessible-Hazard Alert System-Individual Notification
    state-authorized, emergency video/text messaging alerts for deaf & blind residents with email, pagers, cell phones (with text capability), and PDAs (with email capability)
  • Announcement of federal grant award that will provide LIVE video relay ASL interpretation during non-emergency & emergency:
    NON-emergency: eventually will be available at least at Tri-County Judge’s Division of Emergency Management & Tri-County Main Health Office
    Emergency: eventually will be available at least at Tri-County evacuation hub & certain shelters (if such shelters are open)
