Officers & Interpreters: An Ethical & Practical Partnership to Better Serve the Deaf Community

RIO Technical Services, Inc. invites you to spend the day with Sammie Sheppard & Andrea Musick King for a fun and informative workshop to bridge the gap between law enforcement, the Deaf community, and Interpreters. Participants will role play in various scenarios involving topics such as traffic stops, interviews and interrogations, and hostage negotiations just to name a few.

ITP Students $50

Sammie currently works as an Interpreter in a private practice and serves as an adjunct instructor for the TCC Sign Language Interpreting program. Sammie holds a RID: CT, BEI Court Certification, and BEI Level III.

Andrea is a Police Detective for Highland Village. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and took ASL as a foreign language. Andrea is currently enrolled in the Interpreting Training program at TCC.
