Come see the serious side of Keith Wann, the empowerment style of Lisa Callsen, and the ASL phenomenon Windell “Wink” Smith Jr on stage with this one of a kind coda show. Three unique individuals all growing up with Deaf parents sharing many issues that arise for Deaf parents with their own hearing children, it will also move you with topics and events that you would never know happens to hearing children of deaf adults. Follow these three storytellers as they weave ASL and voice and merge in between the Deaf and Hearing worlds, learning language, culture, and life humanity. Through humor and poignant moments you’ll “fishbowl watch” three powerful performers share their stories and representing the culture without a land, coda that!

Music Workshop with Keith Wann 12/4/10 8AM – 12 PM (.4 QAST & RID CEUs) OSU-OKC Conference Center South Third Floor Student Center Building. Wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care! Your workshop facilitator Keith Wann is all over the internet and Youtube performing music, some with comedy, some a little more serious, but all tell a story. He also interprets music on Broadway and for Universal Studios. along with a monthly ASL music club for subscribers. Come learn, observe and discuss the process that happens when a song is listened to, the story is found, and ASL is combined to create a visual representation for the ASL Community. Examples of work will be shared, some interpreting will be discussed, but the focus in on performing. Group work will allow participants to practice in a safe environment and see their stories come to live on their hands while rockin’ the tunes! (Prices Below)

“Make the English Tangible in ASL” Windell “Wink” Smith Jr 12/4/10 1PM – 5PM (.4 QAST & RID CEUs) OSU-OKC Conference Center South Third Floor Student Center Building Picture a train… What do you see? Now ask a friend to picture a train and have them explain or draw what they first saw. Is it the same image you had? Most likely not, ASL is not any different; we all have different “pictures”. One interpreter may interpret a concept completely differently than you do. This workshop focuses on harnessing the ability to create a beautiful ASL interpretation of an English text that bridges both the cultural and linguistic gap while respecting each individual‘s “picture”. (Prices Below)

Deaf Parents Form Discussion 12/4/10 9AM – 12PM (No CEUs awarded) OSU-OKC Presidents Suite Third Floor Student Center BuildingAimed at Deaf parents with hearing children, 18 and under, to help parents get insightful information to encourage their child’s identity when it includes two cultures. Giving parents resources, networking and anecdotes about what it’s like to live in a Deaf household and maneuver the hearing world. We will address common questions like, “why isn’t my child signing yet?” “Why won’t my teenager tell me who they are talking to on the phone?” Other items will
include how to approach school officials about the dynamic of your family and how to handle when strangers talk to your child without your permission.

Keith Wann is one of America’s funniest ASL comedians. Keith tours around the ASL Nation performing both of his one man shows “Watching Two Worlds Collide”.  Keith has gone Hollywood and was filmed in some PEPSI commercials to build hype for the “Bob” commercial. Keith has worked solo and in collaboration with other great ASL artists bringing to stage Coda stories, Deaf culture, Improv, and Sketch comedy. Lisa Callsen is an intriguing, dynamic and energetic speaker delivering an inspirational message.  As a hearing child of Deaf parents, she identifies with being a Coda (children of deaf adults). She is bi-lingual and bi-cultural. She believes we all have a story and wants you to embrace your own identity, culture and diversity. Windell “Wink” Smith Jr is currently the Director of Outreach & Video Communications at SLRS- Sign Language Resource Services, Inc. Windell co-founded and serves as a volunteer CEO for a newly founded not-for-profit organization, Project N.A.D.I.N.E. (National Advocates on Deafness to Inform, Network and Enrich). Windell has also written and produced an ASL DVD entitled Idioms! “Do You See What I’m Saying”? In addition to touring with coda365 Windell travels with his one man show “Looking Up At Deaf Culture” detailing the humorous and tragic events of his parents lives.
