ADA Roundtable Event (8/31/10)
Innovative Assistive Technology Solutions for Persons who are Hard of
Hearing
Join us Tuesday, August 31 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Winters
Building, 701 W. 51st Street, Public Hearing Room (first floor) for this ADA
Round Table Event.
At this ADA Roundtable, Rose Minette, Hard of Hearing Specialist for the
Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, will provide a
brief overview of why we need assistive devices, including information on
the latest innovative assistive technology solutions that can accommodate
persons who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing the workplace,
businesses and public services. This event promises to be enlightening and
interesting! Topics of discussion will include:
* Assistive listening devices
* Best accommodation practices
* Improved accessibility for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing
Bio
Rose Aird Minette, M.A., is a Program Specialist employed by the Texas
Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) – Office for Deaf
and Hard of Hearing Services. For the past 15 years she has created and
implemented services statewide for persons with hearing loss. She currently
manages 12 Hearing Loss Resource Specialist contractors and provides
training to a variety of audiences, including Vocational Rehabilitation
Counselors, Audiologists and other service providers. Ms. Minette holds a
Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Teaching
Certificate in Deaf Education, both from the University of Texas at Austin.
She has a severe-profound bilateral hearing loss, wears a hearing aid and
uses a variety of assistive devices.
