Big Spring, Texas

2011 TAD Conference

“Western Winds: Forward Thinker of the Future”

Welcome to the TAD 2011 Conference to be held June 16-18! This conference
will be different from traditional conferences. This conference theme
focuses on “Future Thinkers!” Our keynote speakers and workshops will focus
on “thinking outside the box!”

We have Mark Gobble and Carrie Lou Garberoglio as our opening and
closing speakers. Those two people were responsible for the recent event
“TEDxislay” held at ACC on May 15, 2010. The TEDxislay event focused on Deaf
speakers who are future thinkers.

Our next speaker is Howard Rosenblum. He is our newest Executive Manager for
NAD office in Silver Spring, Maryland. We are thrilled to have him accept
our invitation to speak at this conference.

We are excited to have newest workshops to present at this conference. The
buzz word around Deaf leaders in California is “Deafhood” written by Dr.
Paddy Ladd. Dr. Donald Grushin, author of Dr.DonG „s videoclips on
Youtube.com, has accepted the invitation to do a 3-hour long workshop on
“Deafhood”.

Marina Fanshteyn will do a presentation on “Financial Success Principles”.
She was one of the co-founders of Deaf Business Expo held in Houston in May
2010. We are waiting to hear on confirmation from other workshop
presenters.

Our Young Adult Fest will be underway at the same time the TAD conference is
held. DARS counselors can send young adults 17-22 to this workshop. We will
have a Deaf Rapper as the entertainment for this special youth event. There
will be more workshops coming up and we will announce them as we go! Come
all!

SWCID Community College for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Persons will be
hosting the Texas Association of the Deaf (TAD) on our Campus on June
16-18, 2011. The TAD is an organization for persons who are deaf or hard of
hearing. It is a membership organization to provide information and
education, to bring the viewpoint on various issues affecting the lives of
those who are deaf or hard of hearing at all levels of the community. It has
proven its commitment to address the needs of deaf and hard of hearing
members for more than a century. TAD was an important part of seeing that
SWCID was established more than thirty years ago.

The theme for the conference is “Western Winds: Forward Thinkers of the
Future!”. Those attending will be deaf and hard of hearing individuals,
professionals who work with those with deaf/hard of hearing individuals and
deaf children.

We are calling for presenters who wish to do their topic during the TAD
Conference. We ask that your topic focus be related to our theme of
“Forward Thinkers and Current Concerns”.

If you wish to present your paper, please get in touch with us by email or
by mailing us the presentation information form. We are looking forward to
