BUILDING AN ETHICAL TOOLBOX FOR MENTAL HEALTH INTERPRETING

Mental Health interpreting has unique challenges, and special linguistic and
ethical considerations. The focus of the day will be on mental health status
assessments, infusing ethical considerations throughout the day.
Participants will be introduced to use of the demand control schema to guide
them in making ethical decisions.
Participants will be introduced to language dysfluency issues and how these
might affect a MH assessment, and be given some tools to manage those issues
while interpreting. Participants will practice ways to interpret common
phrases used in MH assessments. Participants will review RID”s standard
practice paper on MH interpreting.
