SafePlace Job Opening – Austin, TX

Deaf Services Outreach/Educator – (Part Time – 20 hours weekly) – $17,250 a
year

The Deaf Services Outreach/Educator conducts targeted outreach to raise
awareness in the Deaf community about SafePlace and domestic and sexual
violence. Provides training/education on topics related to healthy
relationships and domestic/sexual violence against persons who are Deaf and
training on Deaf culture/sensitivity to hearing professionals. Builds
relationships/partnerships with local Deaf community and plans public
awareness events related to domestic/sexual violence. Staffs booths at local
Deaf events to promote information about SafePlace. This position is
expected to work collaboratively with the Deaf Services team to achieve
program goals. Position targeted to start September 1, 2011.

Requirements: Bachelors degree in adult education, social work, psychology,
sociology, women’s studies or related field or equivalent life experience;
fluency in American Sign Language and life experience or extensive knowledge
of Deaf culture; experience in planning and conducting
trainings/presentations; knowledge of the dynamics of domestic and sexual
violence; excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple
priorities effectively; some weekend and evening work required; reliable
transportation necessary.
