CATS Opens Its 33rd Season with
The Miracle Worker

Creative Arts Theatre & School (CATS) is honored to open its 33rd season
with one of the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern
stage, The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. It’s the story of how Helen
Keller (played by Madison Gilbert), blind and deaf from infancy, prevails
against overwhelming obstacles with the help of her teacher Annie Sullivan
(played by Christina Cornevin).

“Once I knew only darkness and stillness…my life was without past or
future… but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand
that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the rapture of living.”
In her own words, Helen Keller captures the inspirational heart of William
Gibson‘s classic American play. Between the emptiness and the rapture,
though, came a fierce struggle of wills, with Helen, in her darkness and
stillness, on one side, and the determined Annie Sullivan on the other, a
young woman who had endured a lifetime of pain in just twenty years.
Gibson‘s text is unsparing and unflinching in its depiction of their
confrontation and mutual triumph. In its long history, CATS has never
presented The Miracle Worker.

CATS Producing Director, Merri Brewer, states, “I chose the play to open our
season for its depiction of human persistence. It also reminds us that
miracles don’t just happen. They are a lot of work!” Sharon Veselic will
direct and states, “This play is a bold choice for CATS; it’s challenging,
and the story will uplift the families that come to see it and the themes
will resonate for them.”

The Miracle Worker will be interpreted by non-certified, student
interpreters Lindsey Graham and Mark Wylie from Tarrant County College on
October 21, Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. The play is recommended for
audiences aged 8+.

Tickets are only $10 for adults; $8 for students (ages 4+), military, and
seniors (ages 55+). Creative Arts Theatre & School is located at 1100 West
Randol Mill Road, Arlington, Texas 76012. For more information and to
