Deaf robber strikes twice at north side apartments

A Houston man whose victims said he spoke “like a deaf person” is
accused of robbing two women at knife point Tuesday morning in separate
incidents.

Rashad Mayo, 28, has been charged with aggravated robbery in the two
crimes that occurred between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday outside north
side apartments.

The two apartments are less than a mile apart, one in the 13100 block
of Stonefield Drive and the other in the 200 block of Dominion Park
Drive.

Both women told investigators a man approached them from behind as they
got out of their cars to enter their apartments, according to court
records.

In the Stonefield Drive case, the man held a knife against the woman’s
neck and then fled with her purse, records state.

The Dominion Drive resident told police the man pointed a knife at her
and waved it from side to side before making off with her luggage.

Both women described the robber as tall and skinny, in his late 20s and
with a distinct speech impediment like that of a deaf person.

An investigator searched a Harris County database of crime reports,
entering the term “deaf” and located Mayo as a witness in a report of
criminal mischief earlier this year, records state.

Using a booking photo from a previous arrest, the investigator showed a
photo spread to the two women, who said Mayo was the man who robbed
them.
