Landmark Precedent in NAD vs. Netflix

Judge denies Netflix’s motion for judgment on the pleadings and allows
disability civil rights case, National Association Of The Deaf, Et Al.
V. Netflix, Case No. 3:11-Cv-30168, to move forward.

The National Association of the Deaf (“NAD”), the nation’s premier
civil rights organization of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, won
a major victory today when Judge Ponsor denied defendant Netflix’s
Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings seeking dismissal of the case.
The District Court of Massachusetts is the first court in the country
to hold that the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) applies to
website-only businesses.

Deaf Truckers Comment Deadline Extended!

Deaf and hard of hearing truck drivers need your support! We need your
help to tell the U.S. Department of Transportation that deaf and hard
of hearing people should be permitted to drive trucks! We need members
of our community to submit comments to the DOT explaining that the DOT
should allow these 45 deaf and hard of hearing truck drivers to get
CDLs.

The FMCSA has extended the deadline to July 25, 2012, for filing
comments regarding this issue. Come to the NAD conference and stop by
our booth so we can help you send your comment to the FMCSA! If you
cannot attend the conference, please visit our website to view our
sample comment for your use, if needed.

An Inside Look at the ALL-NEW College Bowl Teams!

We are thrilled to have three new teams join the College Bowl Competion
at the 51st Biennial NAD Conference in Louisville, KY this July! The
College Bowl competition has been a crowd favorite since its inception
in 1988 and this year the CSUN, NTID/RIT and Gallaudet University teams
will be joined by three all-new teams: Howard College at SWCID, the
University of Minnesota and the University of Texas at Austin.

Here’s a few tips on what to wear to events during the conference week.
Let’s get all our ducks in a row!

First, the weather. During the month of July in Louisville, the average
high is 89 degrees, with a low of 70 degrees during the evenings. July
is also the average hottest month in Louisville! Looks like it’ll be a
great week. This gives you an idea of what to bring – loose, cool
clothing is a great idea.
