PROGRAM COORDINATOR

The GBYS Program Coordinator is required to be a parent or guardian of a child who is deaf or hard of hearing in order to embody the Hands & Voices value of parent leadership. Specifically, this position will be responsible for the oversight of the Texas Guide By Your Side program, the parent-to-parent support activities provided by parent guides and support activities provided by Deaf and Hard of Hearing guides. Additionally, this position will be responsible for collaborating with appropriate agencies and organizations, networking amongst parents and various parent groups, and developing and implementing plans for the
ongoing support needs of families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing in Texas. Guide By Your Side is a program based on the Hands & Voices philosophy of providing unbiased support to families and the Coordinator will collaborate with the Texas chapter of Hands & Voices to ensure a strong program partnership.

Deafness. This position is grant-funded and is reviewed/renewed annually. Continuation of this position is dependent on renewal of
grant.

Job Location: It is preferred that applicants reside in the greater Austin area and maintain regular office hours at 1102 South Congress, Austin, TX 78704.
Applicants outside the Austin area may be considered for remote work, based on qualifications, and would be required to travel to the Austin office at least once a month.

Required Hours: 20-25/week Start Date: Immediate

Occasional travel is required (15-20%)

Pay Rate: Commiserate with experience, ranging from $30-35/hr.

GOALS AND ACTIVITIES

MANAGEMENT:

* Oversee, manage and supervise the ongoing services and future growth of the Guide By Your Side (GBYS) Program.
* Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training and ongoing supervision of Parent and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Guides.
* Promote the Guide By Your Side Program throughout the state.
* Oversee special projects associated with Guide By Your Side such as, developing and updating resource directories, parent
guidebooks/handbooks, and training materials.
* Build relationships and representation with parents of various cultures, which represent the state’s demographics.
* Assist with the fiscal management of the GBYS Program, including but not limited to payment of the program guides, budgeting and contract management.
* Oversee and maintain principles and practice confidentiality law, as it pertains to referrals and reporting.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, PROGRAM ASSESSMENT AND REPRESENTATION:

* Conduct ongoing formal or informal needs assessments regarding the educational and support needs of families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing at a local, regional, and statewide level.
* Investigate and develop potential collaborations for the provision of local, regional and statewide parent education and support programs.
* Collect or develop and disseminate resources (print, media, internet, research materials) and training notices that are relevant to parents of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
* Identify potential partners, revenue sources, vendors and exhibitors, interpreters, speakers, childcare and entertainment associated with the planning of the parent activities.
* Act as a Liaison and/or provide advisory and leadership services to state agencies and parent and professional organizations.
* Provide parent representation on behalf of the GBYS Program
* Partner with the Texas Hands & Voices chapter to facilitate the development of a statewide network of parents with children who are deaf or hard of hearing
* Required attendance at quarterly Texas Hands & Voices board meetings (travel may be necessary) and monthly reports provided or presented to the TXHV board.

PREFERRED SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
1. Knowledge and understanding of the impact of hearing loss on the family and the child. Support for the philosophy of unbiased support to families.
2. Knowledge of the educational service delivery systems and related resources available locally, regionally, statewide and nationally that assist/serve children (birth to 3, school age and young adult) who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.
3. Knowledge of communication options, deaf culture, technology, and educational philosophies prevalent in the field of deafness.
4. Knowledge of techniques used to plan and/or implement trainings, presentations and conferences for families and educational staff.
5. Experience supervising staff, managing projects and developing systems to meet the ongoing needs of the program.
6. Strong project management skills
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
8. Intermediate skills with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and basic database skills.
