ASL Interpreted Show: Double, Double, Toil and Trouble – Austin

Dear Austin-area educators and members of the deaf community:

Trouble Puppet Theater Company is excited to present Toil and Trouble,
our original adaptation of Macbeth, and we want to let you know that we
welcome groups, especially student groups, and that we can offer
ASL-interpreted performances to our deaf community.

The play will be cut down somewhat, to under two hours, but will retain
Shakespeare’s language on the whole. It will also rely on a brief frame
story original to Artistic Director Connor Hopkins (winner of B. Iden
Payne Awards for Outstanding Direction of a Drama for The Jungle AND
for Frankenstein as well as Outstanding Original Script for The Jungle
and The Austin Examiner’s Best New Play Written by an Austinite for The
Jungle).

It will make a very effective, accessible introduction to Macbeth for
students who have not seen the play and will provide an interesting and
original take for those already familiar with the story.

Dates: Oct. 31-Nov. 18, 2012. 8pm Weds-Sat and 6pm Sundays.

Ticket prices for educators and students are very affordable: $10 for
shows on Weds., Thurs., or Sun., and $15 for shows on Fri. or Sat.
(Halloween excluded; admission on 10/31 is $25 and includes admission
to our costume party, primarily for grownups). Very large groups (over
20) are eligible for further discounts ($8-$12 tickets). Faculty who
bring groups of 5 or more receive complimentary admission. Educators
can purchase the tickets themselves or give students a password they
can use to buy their own tickets.

Director/cast talkbacks/Q&A for groups of five or more are available
(by request) on these dates: 11/1, 11/4, 11/7, 11/11, 11/14, 11/15.

We will also offer ASL interpretation for one or more performances;
please let me know if you are interested in arranging an
ASL-interpreted performance at no added charge.

For more information, please see the pasted-in press release, below.

Best,
Kathryn Rogers

Trouble Puppet Theater Company is dedicated to the creation of
exceptional works of puppet theater, to the promotion of the art of
puppetry, and to the support of its practitioners. We dig as deeply as
we can into the possibilities that puppetry offers, in its many forms
and styles, and seek to balance risk and exploration with a drive for
excellent craft and technique. Our work is inspired not only by our
artistic passion but by our social, political, and human convictions:
that there can be no end to the struggle for knowledge and compassion,
against injustice and intolerance. Trouble Puppet is a sponsored
project of Salvage Vanguard Theater and is supported by The Jim Henson
Foundation, the City of Austin, and individual donors. Toil and Trouble
is underwritten by Joel and Dina Sherzer and James and Sharon Reck and
is mounted with the generous support of The Creative Fund.

Salvage Vanguard Theater is a hub for Austin artists, audiences, and
arts organizations. SVT creates and presents transformative,
high-quality artistic experiences that foster experimentation and
