Fall 2013 – Registration at Austin Community College

acc logoFall Registration is going on now at Austin Community College (ACC), and our classes are filling up fast!

ACC is the largest community college serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing students – there are currently more than 300 D/HH students enrolled from Texas and other states, as well as from other countries, that are taking remedial, workforce, and college credit courses.  While students who are Texas residents may qualify for the tuition waiver, out-of-state students often receive support from their Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies for tuition, books, housing and food while attending ACC.

Austin Community College has an excellent ASL ESOL (English for Speakers/Signers of other Languages) program that is especially designed for direct communication in ASL and written English http://www.austincc.edu/esol/deaf/.  ASL fluent Instructors who are also certified in Deaf Education teach our ASL-ESOL classes.  Free Tutoring using both Deaf and hearing tutors fluent in ASL is provided, with access to computers, webcams, and other technology to help level the educational playing field. The Interpreter Services department offers equal access to communication and information for ACC students, staff, and faculty who are deaf/hard of hearing, and provides interpreters and speech-to- text/captioning services.  A Deaf Counselor provides registration, counseling, college transfer and workforce planning assistance for students.

With more than 235 degrees and certificate programs, Deaf students at ACC major in virtually every field ranging from Jewelry to Calculus, Automotive, Physics, Building Construction, Renewable Energy, Social Work, Radiology, Education, and more!  ACC has Articulation Agreements with both NTID and Gallaudet University for transfer of college credits from one school to the other, and the Southwest Gallaudet University Regional Center (GURC-SW) is located on the ACC Riverside Campus http://www.austincc.edu/swgurc.

Fall classes begin August 26th, so if you are interested in attending ACC,  please contact Dr. Patti Singleton, Counselor via VP 512-410-1604 and Voice 512-223-6262, or [email protected] for more information.
