FORT WORTH — A man was arrested late Wednesday, accused of carjacking a deaf man earlier this month after the victim had given the suspect a ride, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Salvador Villagomez Jr., 18, of Fort Worth.

Police arrested Villagomez late Wednesday after detectives received tips from residents and Crime Stoppers. Detectives had released photos and videos after the Aug. 8 robbery in hopes of getting leads.

A second suspect remained on the loose on Thursday.

Villagomez was in jail Thursday in lieu of $50,000 bail, facing a charge of aggravated robbery.

The carjacking began about 9 p.m. Thursday Aug. 8 at a Shell station in the 5300 block of Granbury Road where the 25-year-old deaf man met two men, according to a police news release.

One man asked to borrow the victim’s cellphone, and then the victim agreed to give the two men a ride, police said.

They first rode to the 7-Eleven store at Old Decatur Road and Parkview Hills Lane on the Saginaw-Fort Worth border.

Shortly after leaving there, one of the robbers “produced a handgun and forced the victim out of his car in the 5400 block of Cromwell Marine Creek Road,” according to reports.

The robbers drove away in the man’s car, a red 2002 four-door Ford Taurus, which was recovered several days later in northwest Fort Worth.

Police obtained photos of the men from video surveillance cameras at one of the stores. Villagomez was described as the man with the gun.

The other man was white with “a slightly heavy build” and about 5 feet 10, mid-30s to early 40s with salt-and-pepper hair and clean-shaven. He was last seen wearing a sweat-stained gray T-shirt, dark-colored shorts and hiking boots.

Anyone with information is asked to call robbery detectives at 817-392-4469 or Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
