Houston Area Association for Bilingual Education

Dr. Yuko Sugiura, Ed.D is Deaf and received T.H. Rogers 2012-2013 HAABE (Houston Area Association for Bilingual Education) Teacher of the Year award in April 2013.   She has been teaching Deaf bilingual children at T.H. Rogers in Houston Independent School District for 12 years.  She is a graduate of Gallaudet University and Western Maryland College. She earned her Doctorate in Deaf Education/Deaf Studies at Lamar University.  

She resides in Richmond, Texas with her husband, James Baldwin. She is mother of three young children, a deaf non-traditional professional teacher, a researcher, and advocate for Deaf bilingual children and youths in deaf education.  She travels to her restful and enjoyable summer home in Canada and spends her cherished time with her family together after the completion of doctoral work.
