SUPPORT THE NAD THIS YEAR!

Before the year ends, grab this LAST CHANCE to make a gift to the National Association of the Deaf!

There's still time to donate before December, 31, 2013!  You can take advantage of this year's tax benefit by contributing online before 9 p.m. EST or postmarked to: National Association of the Deaf, 8630 Fenton St Suite #820, Silver Spring, MD. 20910 on or before December 31, 2013.

In this time of holidays and the turning of the year, it is important to remember the past 12 months and what the NAD has done to preserve, protect and promote the civil, human and linguistic rights of deaf and hard of hearing people.

Our strong advocacy work in 2013 was ranked #9 in the country of all nonprofits promoting the rights of people with disabilities! This ranking by Philanthropedia indicates the impressive work and effect of the NAD, and we will continue to work hard to increase our impact for the benefit of our community.

The work we have done in the past year has led to:

* World attention to ASL through our work with PepsiCo and the NFL to bring in renowned performer John Maucere to sign the National Anthem at the Super Bowl;
* More captioning access for television programs, Internet streaming services and web videos, and stadiums and arenas;
* A significant victory for a deaf medical student in a court trial case against Creighton University for its refusal to provide communication access;
* Increased recognition of quiet heroes in our community through our new #NADHandwave initiative;
* More Commercial Driver’s Licenses for deaf truck drivers from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the likelihood in 2014 of equal access to those licenses for all qualified deaf drivers;
* Preservation of housing designed for deaf and hard of hearing people through our work to prevent the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from penalizing such housing, and continuing our efforts to change HUD perspectives;
* Provision of a new Mental Health position statement to encourage state governments to improve mental health services for our community;
* Promotion of better deaf education through efforts to change legislation through a bill called the Alice Cogswell Act;
* Collaboration to seek ratification of the Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD);
* Securing our future through leadership training at our inspiring annual Youth Leadership Camp (YLC), Junior NAD National Conference, and at our National Leadership Training Conference (NLTC) in Omaha, Nebraska;
* Making available the NAD website to more people through increased use of ASL and, for the first time ever, in Spanish;

…and many more to come in 2014, with your generous support.

Each victory was made possible thanks to YOU.  Without YOUR help, our accomplishments this year would not have been possible.

We are not satisfied, and we know you are not either! We have much to do and look forward to before we can truly be equal.  We can build on our past accomplishments to preserve, protect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. Please support our efforts for another year today!
