POSITION TITLE: SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

Part-time position (Hours vary between 7:30am-10:00pm)

CAMPUS/DEPARTMENT: Central Campus – Disability Support Services

SALARY: $25.00 per hour

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Level I Interpreter Certification (TSID, RID, OR BEI) or meet ADA QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires proficiency in communication and interpretation qualifications standard and the following is required:

• One year full time wage earning sign language interpreting work experience or completion of an Interpreter Preparation Program Internship.

The following is preferred:

• One year full-time wage earning experience sign language interpreting in a post-secondary educational environment.

The interpreter, a staff position, interprets or transliterates between hearing faculty, staff, and students using spoken or written English, and Deaf students and staff using American Sign Language or Signed English. The interpreter will assist with the following functions:

• Interpret or transliterate spoken, written and signed information into American Sign

• Function as Interpreter in self-paced instructional area when designated.

Minimum Requirements & Education:

• Familiar with Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), and the Department of Assistive

• Knowledge of psychosocial, linguistic and cultural aspects.

• Understanding of the Interpreter’s role in an educational setting.

• Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field from an accredited college

• Basic Level Certificate or Advanced Level Certificate or Master Level Certificate awarded

• Generalist certificate or Specialist certificate awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for

• Comparable out-of-state Quality Assurance State Screening Certificate.

• The equivalent of one year participation in professional interpreter’s training as evidenced

Annual Salary- $24,900 or higher dependent on skills and experience.
