Open AA Meeting 10/11/14 – DFW

Greetings!

Creating CityWide was relatively easy in retrospect. Keeping it vibrant and strong is more challenging …. David H. a co-founder of CityWide Dallas has articulated our needs perfectly in the open letter below:

Dear Friends of CityWide Dallas:

The October 11 meeting of CityWide Dallas will mark our eighth month! The CityWide vision of AA Unity through Fellowship appears to have caught on in Dallas. The opportunity for us AA’ers to break bread together, then listen to a fellow-traveler’s message of experience, strength, and hope seems to produce an electric atmosphere each second Saturday of the month.

As with any human endeavor, though, we have had to “learn-by-doing,” and as with any enterprise, a bit of attrition is inevitable.

CityWide Dallas needs your help! The pot-luck dinners have been plentiful and delicious. Your honoring of the Seventh Tradition has enabled CityWide to be entirely self-supporting from Day One. Thank you. But what we need now, at this stage of our growth, is YOU!

CityWide offers many service positions, including set-up and tear-down, food preparation, food service, outreach to local AA groups, and outreach to treatment centers and sober-living houses. We need leaders and we need followers. It takes a fair amount of labor to pull off our meeting each month and to promote the meeting around town.

If you enjoy CityWide and share our vision, please consider joining the team as a service team coordinator or a volunteer. Most positions require only that you show up every second Saturday and help produce the event. Some positions, like outreach, require a bit of time during the month between meetings.

CityWide Dallas does not impose a minimum period of sobriety for volunteers or coordinators. Newcomers, old-timers, and ‘tweeners are all welcome. What CityWide needs is a core of dedicated and enthusiastic team-players who want to be of service and who will view this service opportunity as a service commitment.

If you want to join us, please let me know. If you’re not sure and want to pray about it, that’s great, too.

Whether or not you decide to join the team, we’re glad you are our friend, and we will see you October 11!

Very truly yours,

David H. (512) 584-1525

David is a good friend and I often tease him about being “The Great and Powerless OZ” of CityWide. (the little man behind the curtain) His tireless service to and on behalf of CityWide, behind the scenes, is rivaled only by Charlie S. who is our Co-Event Coordinator. There are about 25 Coordinators and volunteers who have also worked diligently since the beginning to bring CityWide to life and keep it going. Others have joined to help throughout our development. Still, we need much more help as David stated. Please contact any of us here by email or call if you can and want to help. We are having a planning meeting for all coordinators and volunteers on Saturday, Sept. 27th 3:00PM at LLUMC (the church). All are invited.
