Guerra returned to education after stint in research.

1. What courses do you teach at the Higher Education Center?
I have taught the following educational leadership classes:
• EDCL 5339 Understanding Self
• EDCL 5345 Understanding People
• EDCL 5348 Instructional Supervision
• EDCL 6358 Integrative Seminar
2. How long have you been doing so?
I have been teaching for Texas State University Round Rock Campus for seven years.
3. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in San Antonio and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas (UT). After graduating with a bachelor’s in deaf education, the next 14 years I worked at Texas School for the Deaf in Austin in various positions, which included teacher, reading coordinator and school leader.
After returning to UT to get my master’s in curriculum and instruction and a Ph.D. in educational administration, I then worked as an associate at SEDL, a research organization located in Austin. After 10 years, I decided to return to teaching, since it is my first love, but this time in higher education. In 2006 I was hired by Texas State University to work in the Education and Community Leadership program and since then have taught master’s courses at the Round Rock Campus.
My hobbies include hiking, reading, walking my dog, and traveling.
4. What do you enjoy about your job or this field of study?
I enjoy teaching, working with graduate students and working with educators in the field to develop culturally responsive schools and classrooms.
