MAINSTREAM FILM WITH DEAF CAST SEEKS TO ABOLISH HOLLYWOOD BIAS

Always Chasing Love Kickstarter Campaign Launched

May 11, 2015 — Always Chasing Love, starring an exceptional cast of D/deaf actors, such as Alexandria Wailes and Hillary Baack, alongside remarkable hearing actors, such as Patrick O’Sullivan and Bethany Orr, needs your support on Kickstarter. The film demonstrates to the mainstream filmmaking community that including D/deaf characters in stories and casting D/deaf actors alongside hearing actors is not only possible, but necessary. With only 19 days left in its Kickstarter Campaign, your support is needed to complete post-production of the film.

Always Chasing Love is an arthouse drama about a young lady’s passionate search to find her birth parents and the resulting crime of passion. The film shows D/deaf characters as normal, complex individuals, as it focuses on the three main characters’ journey to conquer love in its many forms.
The film also introduces audiences to the innovative Sign Language Police Department (“SLPD”).

Jadolphus CW Fraser started on his own journey to make this film several years ago, when films in ASL were virtually non-existent. While there are more films in ASL today, primarily created by D/deaf filmmakers for a D/deaf audience, the Hollywood filmmaking community still demonstrates a reluctance to cast D/deaf actors even when the characters are D/deaf. Films such as “Medeas” and “Avenged” illustrate the bias that Jadolphus CW Fraser wants to abolish.

In order to foster a creative work environment that welcomed D/deaf and hearing actors and crew members, Jadolphus CW Fraser worked closely with D/deaf advocacy organizations, such as:

• Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness (“GLAD”);
• Actress, Producer and Director Michelle Banks;
• Sign Language Interpreting Services, such as Bridges Interpreting Services;
• Freelance Interpreters, such as Theresa “Mama T” Sharp; and
• El Camino College, California’s ASL interpreting program.

With the mission to create an amazing movie-going experience for all audiences, Jadolphus CW Fraser enlisted production and post-production talent who worked on films, such as American Hustle, Austin Powers, Kill Bill, Vanilla Sky, and Star Wars. The cast and crew are all extremely proud of this film and the $15,000 campaign fundraising goal will get it out of post-production and in front of an eager audience.

The Kickstarter campaign for Always Chasing Love runs until the night of May 30, 2015 and can be found at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/626369601/always-chasing-love. Starting with a donation of $3, you can tell Hollywood that D/deaf and hearing audiences want more films like Always Chasing Love.
