TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF HONORS DEAF AWARENESS WEEK 2015
COMMUNITY EVENTS – OPEN TO THE PUBLIC – SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2015

Austin, Texas – Sep 22, 2015 The Texas School for the Deaf today kicks-off events honoring this 2015 Deaf Awareness Week, September 21-27, 2015:

Tuesday, September 22, 6:30 – 9:30 pm

Free Popcorn and Movie Night
TSD Campus – 1102 South Congress Avenue, Texas 78704

TSD invites families and neighbors from all across the community for a free popcorn and movie night. Featured on Alamo Drafthouse’s jumbo screen, kids of all ages will enjoy the movie, ”No Ordinary Hero”, outside on the grounds of the TSD campus, under the stars. Bring chairs and/or blankets and a picnic. (No alcohol and no pets allowed, please.)

Deaf Awareness Night – Community Social

All are invited to meet and socialize with deaf and hard of hearing neighbors and learn from each other about issues the issues that are important to our community. Voter registration available. Free parking across the street at the TSD campus – 1102 South Congress Avenue.

Campus Open House

TSD invites the community to tour the 159-year old school and observe classroom teaching and learning at TSD today. Known to be the oldest, continuously operating public school in all of Texas, the school’s Heritage Center museum features a thorough record of TSD’s vibrant history, with a special new installation telling of the “Desegregation of TSD 50 Years Ago”. Guides will walk you through special historical tales of the school’s establishment and the significance of TSD in Texas’, and our nation’s, education today.
