FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF’S PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM PRESENTS

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

DECEMBER 10-11, 2015

Austin, Texas – December 10, 2015 – Tonight at the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD), the TSD Performing Arts Program presents, James and the Giant Peach – on stage at 7:00 pm, in the school’s auditorium at 1102 South Congress Avenue – and a matinee performance tomorrow, Friday, December 11 at 10:30 am.

TSD’s annual middle school theatre production tells the story of James, a young boy, who along with an unusual group of friends, encounter a bizarre world on a wild and weird adventure, where they find with a little magic, anything can – and does – happen.

Told in the students’ native language – American Sign Language (ASL) – TSD’s version adds a whole other component of beauty to the story; something the cast and crew are anxious for the audience to enjoy.

TSD sixth grader, Joel Pennington – who stars as James – speaks of the anticipation and hard work of his cast and crew mates in bringing this tale to the audience tonight.

“We have learned so much together, Pennington says, and we are excited to share this with the community.”

Returning for his second year on stage in TSD’s Performing Art Program, 8th grader, Joel Cherichello, likens the production to a school sporting event.

Cherichello says, “This may not be a sport, with a ball, but this is our biggest game of the season.”
