Job Description: JOB TITLE: Job Coach
TYPICAL DUTIES: * A job coach provides on-site job training for consumers needing
assistance in adjusting to employment,
instruction in learning the skills necessary to perform a job competently, and
training in the use of transportation services for applicants and consumers to access services and employment.
Description of Services:
Train applicants and consumers to use public transportation services or other means of transportation to help applicants and consumers access services and employment.
Work side-by-side with a newly placed consumer at a job site.
Analyze the job, and break into manageable components.
Identify and solve problems before they become crises for the consumer, employer, or co-worker.
Teach effective job keeping skills to the consumer.
Use the least intrusive methods possible on the job.
Gradually reduce the time spent at the job site as the consumer becomes better adjusted and more independent.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.;
One or more years experience working with people with disabilities;
Experience providing direction and assistance to others.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Knowledge of business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation;
Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and handle multiple projects at the same time;
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; maintains effective working relationships with other staff and clients;
Ability to travel by automobile approximately 20% of the time;
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skills.
CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: Valid driver’s license. Must have or must be able to obtain Job Coach Certification within 30 days of employment from the University of North Texas (employer sponsored).
This is a part time position. Preference will be given to individuals with experience working with blind, low-vision and deaf consumers. Work availability should be open Sunday-Saturday. Hours vary based on consumers need for assistance.
