Help Derrell Get a New Home!

Hurricane Harvey hit Port Aransas residents hard on August 25, 2017.  One resident in particular, who’s a dear friend of ours has been left homeless and trying to get back on his feet.  Derrell Ramsey is Deaf and a Port Aransas resident of 7 years.  Harvey destroyed his his home (RV) and everything in it!  He walked away with only a bag of clothes.  The loss includes tools he used to help other islanders with small repairs.  While Derrell works part-time, he does not earn enough to get him to a point where he can buy  himself a new home (gently used RV).   All the while, he is steadily  helping others on the island with their plight to recover from this devastating storm.

A trip to the FEMA station in Port A yielded little to no help even with an advocate by his side.  A good Samaratin on the island has kindly offered a temporary room for Derrell to stay, however, it’s just that – temporary.  Derrell desperately wants his home back.

As the residents in Port A say “HUCK FARVEY”!

Help us get Derrell back in a home and one less person suffering due to this storm.  I know there a lot of Harvey fundraisers going on right now and not everyone wants to give to the Red Cross. With the fundraiser you know exactly where the funds are going.  Our starting goal is $5000 although it will likely cost him more to get back on his feet.

Delia Mott Merritt, CEO of Communication by Hand, LLC – an Austin, TX based ASL interpreting agency will meet total donations up to $2500!  This means his total donations could be as much as $7500.

In lieu of monetary donations, gently used tools or references for a used RV are also welcome.

Progress or any purchases made by Derrell and his advocates/family will be posted here and on the Communication by Hand, LLC Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Communicationbyhandllc/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel
