Sex Education for Interpreters
There are many horror stories from both interpreters and Deaf clients with sign language appearing too graphic to hearing colleagues. This workshop will prepare interpreters to address awkward, embarrassing, and uncomfortable situations appropriately. Participants will exercise their sexual health interpreting skills, which will cover topics such as birth control, STIs, HIV/AIDS, relationships, and more.

Interpreting in Sexual Health Care Settings
Interpreting is a fast-growing field in constant development and we need to ensure that we stay current and able to adapt to an evolving world. Participants will have opportunities to engage in hands-on activities to practice their interpreting skills for different body systems, its functions, everyday questions, and procedures/treatments. Ethics in health care interpreting will be addressed and discussed.

Working with LGBTQ+ Clients
Deaf individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, asexual, or queer face numerous significant barriers in accessing healthcare. This training will provide interpreters with a framework for incorporating LGBTQ+ issues in their interpreting work, including appropriate vocabulary, that will allow clients to feel comfortable in opening to their healthcare provider.
