2020 Education & Advocacy Summit: Deaf Education

Registration deadline: February 14, 2020

This free summit is designed for administrators and professionals in deaf education and special education. It includes presentations and discussions on policy, best practices, and innovation related to educating deaf and hard of hearing students. All dialogue will be conducted in American Sign Language and spoken English.

Additionally, deaf and hard of hearing high school students from your schools and districts are invited to join the concurrent youth summit.

What to expect if you attend:

  • Interact with school administrators in order to optimize educational outcomes for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Seize the opportunity of a free training on the campus of Gallaudet University, a school that provides higher education to deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Participate in discussions related to federal programs implemented based on laws affecting students from birth to 21 years old.
  • Acquire a better understanding of federally funded initiatives to support early language acquisition in deaf and hard of hearing babies

YOUTH SUMMIT

Administrators are encouraged to bring deaf and hard of hearing high school students from their schools and districts to the youth summit that will be held concurrently with the professional summit.

Students will learn from college interns who worked on the Hill as well as engage in a learning session about legislative processes and how to advocate for education equity to the congressional staff.
