World’s Most Translated Website Reaches New Milestone

DALLAS, TX – December 11, 2019 – JW.ORG, the official website of Jehovah’s Witnesses, has reached a significant translation milestone. As of last month, the website features content in an unprecedented 1,000 languages, including 100 sign languages. Material includes Bible-based articles, audio, and video productions.

Commenting on the organization’s long history of translation work, Geoffrey Jackson, a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses said, “It took us a little over a hundred years to reach 508 languages in January 2013. But it’s remarkable that in just under seven years we have nearly doubled our translation production from 508 languages to 1,000.”

Though Jehovah’s Witnesses are headquartered in New York, much of the translation work is accomplished in some 350 remote translation offices around the globe. Translating from the area of the world where a particular language is actually spoken ensures that an accurate and easy to understand translation is being achieved. “We are extremely committed to our translation work because we believe that the message of the Bible is for all people. So, whether a language is spoken by millions or by just a few, we feel compelled to take on the translation work,” said Kevin Jenkins, Local Media Host.

Next month, local Jehovah’s Witnesses will take part in a special outreach campaign directed at the more than 100,000 Vietnamese-language speakers residing in the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex. “We live in a time when global migration has become commonplace. For various reasons, many people find themselves far from their native homeland,” said Jenkins. “We are overjoyed to be able to share the message of the Bible with such ones and to do it in their mother-tongues.” JW.ORG features content in all of the most common non-English languages spoken throughout the metroplex including Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Arabic, and Amharic.
