Fort Worth, Texas – Anna LaTonne DeShazo Stout, died September 9, 2020 at age 74 with her family by her side in Hospice care after suffering a stroke days prior.

Born on June 12,1946, a native of Fort Worth, she graduated North Side High School and soon dedicated her life to helping the Deaf community and others in need. She was a Sign Language Interpreter for the Fort Worth metroplex community for many years, working also with the Tarrant County College (then Tarrant County Jr. College) NE campus disability services SCOOP office director and interpreting for Deaf students attending TCC campuses. She then was a primary consultant for TCC in the establishment of their Sign Language and Interpreter Training Program initially at TCC’s NW campus. She was a primary force in founding the area’s first interpreter organization of Trinity Valley Interpreters for the Deaf (TVID). She was a co-founder and President of DEAF Inc., providing services to the Deaf senior citizens, Deaf with disabilities and Deaf-Blind citizens, originally housed in downtown Westchester Plaza Assisted Living, then moved to Heritage Square Assisted Living and the organization name from then on being known as Heritage Square.

She was the primary of two co-founders and President of Hired Hands Inc. providing interpreting services in the Fort Worth area. Her greatest focus was on the Deaf senior citizens, Deaf with disabilities and Deaf-Blind communities in providing services at both Westchester Plaza, then Heritage Square. She was a strong supporter in the establishment of New Life Deaf Fellowship Church and a member and church council member. With us and for us, our Deaf and interpreting communities, she made a beautiful difference for us and our community. She wasn’t just an interpreter and an advocate . . . she was and is a true friend with a Deaf heart. She was and is beloved by so many in our Deaf and interpreting communities and will be deeply missed. Our deeply heartfelt gratitude to you, LaTonne dear friend, for all that you have done with and for us. We will carry on your works. We will carry on your and legacy.

Obituary: LaTonne DeShazo StoutShe enjoyed the simple pleasures of her lake home with family, friends, and pets. She is preceded in death by her mother Ethyl Long DeShazo and her father Curtis Fuller DeShazo. She is survived by her brother, Jack E. (Rebecca) DeShazo and their 5 children; cousins Vickie (Billy) Beasley, Robert Mark (Lisa) Cagley, Brenda (Gary) Collinsworth, Linda Priddy (Dale) Carr; and her stepson Jason C. (Kristen) Stout and their daughter Lily Ann Stout; A private burial was held Friday, September 11th, at Ash Creek Cemetery. Services provided by White’s Funeral Homes.

She focused on the elderly and provided services to Westchester Plaza Assisted Living and Heritage Square Assisted Living. She was a co-founder and member of New Life Deaf Fellowship Church. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of her lake home with family, friends, and pets. She was beloved by many.

She is preceded in death by her mother Ethyl Long DeShazo and her father Curtis Fuller DeShazo. She is survived by her brother, Jack E.
