Hello, I have a question that I’m hoping you can help me with. This evening, I had gotten together with some old friends of mine that I grew up with in school, they are all deaf and I’m hearing impaired that does not socialize with the deaf culture as much as I used to years ago. I live pretty much like the hearing people do. I do recieve ssi every month i get 328 every month and the other 325 goes to child support. My deaf friends are telling me that there is a application that I can apply for in getting a 15,000 loan for getting a home or etc. I would very much would like to know what can I do to get information in how I can accomplish in getting this help. I do not have a job. I have 2 children and I barely get by finacally. Please help me get the steps that I need to do to get this help. How do I qualify? I’m desperate and would love to get help. Today my audiologist gave me the number for Deaf Action Center to possibly receive a free phone to remedy my problem of not being able to hear my phone ring most of the time during the day and not at all during the night. The number given was 214-521-0407. I talked to Ashley at this number and I have never received such rude and hateful treatment before at any place of business. When I told her my problem, she very abruptly gave me the name of a company name Callier and said I should either go there and purchase a phone with a loud ringer or order one from a catalog. I ask her about what I had been told about possibly being able to get a free phone to serve this purpose. Her voice became very loud and she said well if you want a free phone I will have to come to your house and fill out an application and submit it for qulification and it is going to take 6 to 8 weeks from Austin. I said well, I’m sorry, I didn’t understand that. Then I said it would be good if people who represent you, oh I’m sorry I correct myself, people who are aware of your service knew more in detail. Before I could finish my sentenance she yelled at me they do not represent us. I said, Ashley, I’m sorry for my miss-statement, I corrected myself immediately. Before I finished the previous sentenance she slamed the phone down in my ear. I was so shocked I couldn’t believe such behavior. After having a good cry, I began trying to find a number for the Austin office and was lucky enough to find the number for the Ft Worth office and spoke to Karen. I told Karen what had happened to me in my conversation with Ashley and she was so sweet and helpful. She was so concerned at the way I had been treated that she asked me to give her just a short time to see what she could come up with to keep me from driving all the way the Dallas or Richardson to buy a phone. She called back within a very short period of time and had found an Audiologist right here in Bedford within about 10 minutes from my house who had the type phones in stock that I could purchas. Karen went above and beyond to help a customer in need and she deserves several pats on the back for her endeavor. She truly knows and understands the meaning of customer service. I did talk to Ester Kelly later in the day and explained what happeded and I did tell her that on my next appointment with my audiologist on June 30th I would make him aware of what had happened and suggest he start giving the Ft Worth number to his patients from now on lest they possibly get Miss Ashley in one of her moods.
