Deaf Self-Advocacy Training

This session is for people who are deaf or hard of hearing and use sign
language. Participants will gain a stronger understanding of how to advocate
for themselves, develop higher self esteem, understand the interpreter’s
role, and how to advocate for communication access services. Each session is
limited to 20 participants.

Trainers: Ann Horn and Randi Turner from the DARS – Office for Deaf and Hard
of Hearing Services.

This is a 2 day training, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. You must be able to attend both
days.

* April 29-30, 2010 – Houston
* May 5-6, 2010 – Austin
* May 13-14, 2010 – San Antonio
* May 26-27, 2010 – Dallas

These sessions are sponsored by the Department of Assistive and
Rehabilitative Services, Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. The
DSAT project was a collaborative effort to create a self advocacy training
for communication access services. The project team consisted of the
National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC), Communication
Service for the Deaf (CSD), and T.S. Writing Services, who collaborated with
Digiterp Communications and D.E.West Studios.
