Suspected Bank Robber May Be Deaf, Mute
Teller says suspect motioned he couldn’t hear
HOUSTON – A suspected bank robber had nothing to say to a bank teller in
northwest Houston – possibly because it was impossible for him to say
anything.
The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force is on the lookout for a man who may be deaf
and mute.
The suspect entered a Chase bank in the 12210 block of FM 1960 West around
12:25 p.m. and gave a bank teller a threatening demand note, according to a
Houston Crime Stoppers statement.
The bank teller tried to talk with the suspect, but the suspect motioned he
could not hear.
The suspect also appeared to be unable to speak. Because of this, the bank
teller told investigators the man may have been deaf and mute.
After providing the cash, the suspect fled the bank on foot in an unknown
direction.
No one was physically hurt in the incident. No weapon was directly observed,
but witnesses tell investigators they saw a bulge in the man’s waistband.
Surveillance cameras captured pictures of the man during the robbery.
The suspect is described as a black male, around 5’8” to 5’10” tall,
weighing about 160 to 170 pounds and has a dark complexion. He wore dark
colored clothing during the robbery.
A reward of up to $5,000 is available to anyone with information that could
lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
