The San Antonio Special Programs Co-op is seeking qualified, contract Auditory Impairment Teachers to serve our members schools in the Rio Grande Valley, Coastal Bend, South and Central Texas areas.
Job Objectives:

The Auditory Impairment teacher will work with students, EC?12th grade, who are deaf and/or hard of hearing, their teachers and families to ensure that required and related services are provided in their home school.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university;
2. Current Texas or National certification as a teacher of the hearing impaired;
3. Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in special/deaf education preferred;
4. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and cooperate with various school staff members.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.

* Collaborate with school team to develop appropriate services through the IEP process.
* Educate the entire school team in the unique needs of students with hearing impairments.
* Assist student, school faculty and staff with technology for hearing impaired students.
* Distribute technology and train teachers on how to troubleshoot the various technology used by the students including, but not restricted to: hearing aids, cochlear implants, and various types of FM Systems.
* Provide a minimum amount of direct, indirect or consultative instruction to hearing impaired students in areas for which they need additional assistance.

Skills and Abilities Required:

The following characteristics and physical skills are important for the successful performance of assigned duties.
* Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legal requirements of an IEP and the ARD process as outlined in Texas.
* Must have a working knowledge of IDEA 2004.
* Must be proficient in the use of a computer, data bases, excel, word, etc. Excellent written and oral presentation skills required.
* Transportation and the ability to move between schools required.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Does not directly supervise any individuals.
Will report to Lead Educational Specialist

Working Conditions:

Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable:

* Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors-  Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
* Tools/Equipment Used-  Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
* Posture – Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
* Motion – Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
* Lifting – Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
* Environment – Frequent travel require
