Pre-Certified Interpreter Training Opportunity – Summer Institutes 2017!
The HHS Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) has partnered with various entities to offer several ‘Summer Institute’ trainings for pre-certified interpreters this year! Each training in the Summer Institute Series consists of intensive, weeklong skill building workshops, with a specific target audience.

At this time, DHHS plans to sponsor the following three options in the 2017 Summer Institute Series:
Fort Worth Summer Institute: May 28 – June 2, 2017
Registration Fee: $100.00
Area of focus: ASL to English for K-12 interpreters
Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have (1) already passed the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), and (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 65)
San Antonio Summer Institute: July 30 – August 4, 2017
Registration Fee: $100.00
Area of focus: interpreting ASL to English skill development
Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have (1) already passed the Test of English Proficiency (TEP), and (2) have come close, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 65)
Houston Summer Institute: August 14 – 17, 2017
Registration Fee: $100.00
Area of focus: interpreting skill development
Participant criteria: pre-certified interpreters who have either (1) graduated from an ITP program and taken the TEP, OR (2) taken, but not yet passed, the BEI Basic (score between 44 and 70)
*PLEASE NOTE: *Participants are responsible for their own arrangements and expenses related to transportation, lodging, meals, incidentals, etc.
