GCPD Announces Accessibility and Disability Policy Webinars 

The Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) announces a new free training series on accessibility and disability policy best-practices through ZOOM, a leader in accessible webinar platforms. The GCPD will work with our community partners and colleagues in government to bring you expert speakers delivering training programs to enhance your knowledge on accessibility and disability policy issues.

As part of our celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we invite you to join us in October for the first two webinars in our ongoing webinar series. October’s programs will appeal broadly to employers, ADA coordinators, human resources staff members, and anyone working in the fields of vocational rehabilitation and disability employment. Note: seating will be limited to the first 100 participants.

October 11, 2017 – ADA and Employment: Best Practices for Employers and Employees

This webinar will cover the employment rights of people with disabilities under Title I of the ADA. We will discuss the interactive process, reasonable accommodations, medical inquiries, and best practices for employers and employees. The webinar will delve into real-world examples on issues people with disabilities face in the workplace.

Presenter: Lia S. Davis is an attorney at Disability Rights Texas, the federally mandated protection and advocacy organization for people with disabilities in Texas.

This webinar will discuss selected developments in ADA law, including the definitions of disability and qualified individual with a disability, essential functions, reasonable accommodation, and disability-related inquiries and medical examinations. We will focus primarily on significant cases decided by the courts or those filed by the EEOC.

Presenter: Joyce Walker-Jones is a Senior Attorney in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) Policy Division in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in Washington, DC.
