Robotics Education & Competition 2020-2021

I work for the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, and we were recently awarded a Texas Workforce Commission grant for the school year of 2020-2021. I m responsible to help develop 25 teams of Deaf and Hard of Hearing high school students from across the state of Texas. I am partnering with Aaron Mowell ,who is the Outreach Project Manager for the Statewide Outreach Center at the Texas School for the Deaf.

The grant will cover an initial team registration for the year valued at $150. The grant will also cover a V5 robot kit with some additional components valued at $1,500.

We are working to coordinate a two-day training for teachers on site in Austin in late October and will have the sessions recorded for those who are unable to attend in person.

In 2018 I worked with two colleagues from the foundation to help start all Deaf and Hard of Hearing teams with the state schools from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kentucky. The following school year I was invited to join the group again for the first all Deaf and Hard of Hearing robotics tournament. Our hosts were the teams from North Carolina and an all-girls team took the top award at the event.

Below is some background information on our organization.

The Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation’s mission is to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on, affordable, and sustainable robotics engineering programs.

We see a future where all students design and innovate as part of a team, experience failure, persevere, and embrace STEM. These lifelong learners emerge confident in their ability to make the world a better place.

General Information on our programs can be found in our 2020-2021 Brochure.

The VEX World Championship is the culminating experience for teams who have earned invitations from local, state, and national championship events. The 2019 VEX World Championship video will provide insight into our programs.

We have developed a Grants Guide specifically related to this opportunity. We also invite you to go out to the REC Foundation Texas Workforce Commission Grant Website to get the process started. https://online.flippingbook.com/view/893440/

I welcome any assistance you can provide in helping to get the word out.
