BEI Performance Testing Update 3/5/2021

BEI Performance Testing Update 3/5/2021

The Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (ODHHS) is pleased to announce that after pausing activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are resuming in-person Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) performance testing.

ODHHS staff has begun contacting qualified applicants to schedule their tests, which will resume beginning March 11, 2021. Test location and other details will be confirmed with each candidate individually.

We appreciate the patience of our applicants and sincerely apologize for the delay. ODHHS staff are working to schedule testing appointments as quickly as possible; qualified applicants on the waiting list will be contacted in the order in which their completed application was placed in the queue. If you have a completed application on file, you can expect to be contacted by March 31, 2021, to begin the scheduling process.

COVID-19 Guidance

Applicants are encouraged to follow COVID-19 best practices as outlined by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in preparation for taking their performance test. Applicants can also complete this online COVID-19 Self-Checker. Specific questions can be addressed with ODHHS staff when scheduling the testing appointment.

New Performance Test Applications

New applications for performance tests may be submitted online or by mail. Additional application details are available on the BEI webpage. Payment of the testing fee is not required with application submission. ODHHS staff will contact qualified applicants individually as test dates become available and will share payment instructions at that time.

Refunds

Paid applicants who would like to withdraw their testing application may request a refund by emailing [email protected]. Please note that once a refund is processed, applicants are removed from the waiting list and must start the application process over if they decide to pursue testing at a later date.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment and partnership in serving the deaf population of Texas. If you have further questions, email us at [email protected].

Sincerely,

ODHHS Staff
