May 2022

Austin, Texas – 25 contemporary authors from across the country who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and BIPOC, will be in Austin for the first Deaf Authors Book Festival, May 6-7, 2022, at the Texas School for the Deaf.

The two-day event includes book signings, workshops, and panel discussions, and is free to the public.

“This event will provide young writers the opportunity to interact and learn from renowned Deaf authors’ and their writing techniques,” says Dr. Steve Baldwin, co-chair of the festival.

TSD Superintendent, Claire Bugen, says, “we are very excited to partner with the national Deaf community and look forward to this first ever Deaf Author’s Book Festival to bridge our communities, and celebrate the many accomplished authors who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind and BIPOC.”
