Job Summary

Full-time, tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in American Sign Language (ASL) to begin August 2022. The successful candidate should be a specialist in American Sign Language as well as have a strong commitment to research and professional service. Candidates with experience and/or interest in interdisciplinary work will be given priority. Experience in online instruction and interpreting, and knowledge of a language other than English are welcome.

Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service as well as a strong commitment to teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The new ASL Assistant Professor will:

• Teach courses in ASL
• Conduct research and scholarly activities appropriate for an R1 institution,
or demonstrate potential for such activity
• Participate in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives
• Serve the department as needed

The successful candidate will serve as coordinator of the department’s ASL program and will be tasked with building the program toward a minor.

Required qualifications
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in ASL, Deaf studies, Disability studies, or relevant field at the time of joining the faculty. Strong leadership skills are also required.
