If you<br \/>\nare, please contact Lucinda Reyna at DARS Deafblind Services at 512-377-0588<br \/>\nor email Lucinda.reyna@dars.state.tx.us  to sign up for one of the<br \/>\npre-conference trainings and to obtain a Texas vendor ID # if you do not<br \/>\nalready have one.  Deadline to sign up for training is 5 days prior to the<br \/>\nevent.  If you are not able to attend the training, you can still sign up as<br \/>\na vendor and possibly be contacted to work.  However preference will be<br \/>\ngiven first to those who attend the training and meet other criteria.<\/p>\n<p>The training will be lead by Nancy Riley, Kristin Lund along with Kris Cue<br \/>\nand Kim Powers-Smith.  There will also be a panel of consumers with various<br \/>\ncommunication needs who will share their personal experiences as well as<br \/>\ntraining on guiding techniques.<\/p>\n<p>Due to time constraints, no CEUs are offered for the training. Independent<br \/>\nstudy CEUs can be arranged by going to TSID\u2019s website at<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tsid.org\/ceus\/rid.php#independent\" target=\"_blank\"> http:\/\/www.tsid.org\/ceus\/rid.php#independent<\/a> or contact Ann Horn at<br \/>\nann.horn@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n<p>A background check will be required before you can work as an SSP whether<br \/>\nyou attend the training or not.   A copy of your background check can be<br \/>\nobtained from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) on North Lamar.  Please<br \/>\nnote that BEI certified interpreters have already completed this part.  You<br \/>\nmust submit a copy of your background report to Lucinda Reyna by May 17,<br \/>\n2010.  Even if you attend the training and sign up as a vendor, you will not<br \/>\nbe called to work as an SSP unless we have a background check in file for<br \/>\nyou.  Persons with serious criminal history problems will not be accepted<br \/>\nfor work as an SSP.<\/p>\n<p>1. Contact Lucinda Reyna to sign up for training at least 5 days before the<br \/>\ntraining date (April  19 for April 24th training, April 26 for May 1st<br \/>\ntraining) and as a vendor by May 3, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>2. Send your background check report to Lucinda via fax 512-377-0592, drop<br \/>\noff in person or mail at 4900 N. Lamar, Ste. 220,  Mail Code 1409, Austin,<br \/>\nTX 78756, or email as attachment Lucinda.reyna@dars.state.tx.us by May 17,<br \/>\n2010.<\/p>\n<p>3. Attend the pre-conference training on April 24 or May 1 at 9 am \u2013 5 pm:<br \/>\nCriss Cole Rehabilitation Center (CCRC), 4800 N. Lamar, Austin TX<\/p>\n<p>Working at the conference:<\/p>\n<p>Interpreters will be needed for platform interpreting, tactile interpreting,<br \/>\nand close vision interpreting.  The pay for interpreters will vary depending<br \/>\non the interpreting agency.<\/p>\n<p>SSP\u2019s will be needed to interpret visual information and as a human guide<br \/>\nfor Deafblind persons attending the conference.   The pay for SSPs will be<br \/>\n$10.50 an hour for those who do not attend the training.
