(April 7. 2010) &#8211; Deaf and hard-of-hearing girls who are<br \/>\nentering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in September and who are interested in<br \/>\nscience, technology, engineering and math can attend TechGirlz, a summer<br \/>\ncamp from August 1 \u2013 7, 2010 at Rochester Institute of Technology\u2019s National<br \/>\nTechnical Institute for the Deaf.<\/p>\n<p>TechGirlz is designed to help girls learn about and consider jobs and<br \/>\ncareers in science and technology. Campers will learn through hands-on<br \/>\nactivities such as building their own computer to take home, discovering the<br \/>\nsecrets of roller coaster design and becoming a commander on a simulated<br \/>\nmission to Mars. They also will receive their own lab coats, meet other<br \/>\ngirls with similar interests and enjoy social activities.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of girls from across the country typically attend TechGirlz, now in<br \/>\nits fifth year. Camp learning activities are presented in English and in<br \/>\nsign language, are certified by the New York State Department of Health and<br \/>\nincorporate National Science Education standards. The cost is $650<br \/>\n(scholarships may be available) and includes tuition, housing in a residence<br \/>\nhall on campus, meals and snacks for the week.
