Pleasant, North Carolina and Reverand Oglethorpe has invited the Sanders Family Singers to provide an upliftin’ evening of singin’ and witnessin’. The audience becomes the church goers in the congregation. More than two dozen songs, many of them vintage pop hymns, and hilarious stories from the more or less devout Sanders provide a richly entertaining evening that has audiences clapping, singing, laughing and cheering.

This musical has been so popular at Artisan that it is being brought back for a third run (not counting the run of the SANDER’S FAMILY CHRISTMAS: SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN II, which was sold out three months before it ever opened.

Taffy Geisel, the director, is appearing for the fourth time as Miss Myrtle, and she’s growing quite fond of the crusty old lady, who is based on church ladies she knew growing up in the Bible Belt. Taffy has been in love with the theater since kindergarten when she got to play Tiger-Lily, the mean ugly step-flower, in CINDERELLA IN FLOWERLAND. Taffy has directed over 30 area productions including ANNIE and THE CHRISTMAS CAROL MIRACLE at Artisan. In 2003, she was named Best Actress by the Fort Worth Star Telegram for her role as Miss Hannigan in CATS production of ANNIE. She has also directed several plays that she adapted from books, including THE CHRISTMAS CAROL MIRACLE and A WRINKLE IN TIME.

This production of SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN features many of the original cast.
