Announcing the first-ever TEDxIslay on 05.15.10 in Austin<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called
\nTEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people
\ntogether to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxIslay,
\nwhere x= independently organized TED event. At our TEDxIslay event,
\nTEDTalks, video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and
\nconnection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance
\nfor the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are
\nself-organized.<\/p>\n

Islay is the name of a 1986 novel by Douglas Bullard, who envisioned a place
\nof our own: a country that deaf community calls home. We picked the name
\nbecause TED requires us to name our event after a place, and if there\u2019s a
\nplace for the deaf community, it\u2019s Islay. On 05.15.10 in Austin, we\u2019re
\ndebuting with an inaugural event that will unite 100 progressive, positive,
\nand passionate thinkers and doers for a day sure to inspire.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, 05.15.10, we\u2019re planning on a big day filled with new ideas and
\nactualizing them. We\u2019ll be making a difference in the deaf and hard of
\nhearing community, and we\u2019re planning on a carefully curated program of
\nriveting speakers.<\/p>\n
