TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people
together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxIslay,
where x= independently organized TED event. At our TEDxIslay event,
TEDTalks, video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and
connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance
for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are
self-organized.

Islay is the name of a 1986 novel by Douglas Bullard, who envisioned a place
of our own: a country that deaf community calls home. We picked the name
because TED requires us to name our event after a place, and if there’s a
place for the deaf community, it’s Islay. On 05.15.10 in Austin, we’re
debuting with an inaugural event that will unite 100 progressive, positive,
and passionate thinkers and doers for a day sure to inspire.

On Saturday, 05.15.10, we’re planning on a big day filled with new ideas and
actualizing them. We’ll be making a difference in the deaf and hard of
hearing community, and we’re planning on a carefully curated program of
riveting speakers.

To learn more about TEDxIslay, go to http://www.tedxislay.com .
