Workshop Description:<\/p>\n

Am I violating the Code of Ethics? Do these people understand each other?\u00a0Many interpreters find themselves in situations where they are unsure\u00a0whether their behavior is an ethical conflict, or cultural mediation. In\u00a0this seminar we will discuss the definition of cultural mediation and the\u00a0role of the interpreter as the cultural mediator. We will look at the pros\u00a0and cons of the dual role, and the appropriate way to provide cultural\u00a0information without violating our code of ethics.<\/p>\n

We will discuss common\u00a0situations that arise in our field and determine\u00a0appropriate ways to address\u00a0cultural concerns in those settings. Finally, we will review the Code of\u00a0Ethics and open a discussion in which interpreters\u00a0have a safe environment\u00a0to ask questions to their colleagues on \u201cwhat would you do?\u201d For further\u00a0assistance, contact AID Vice President Sonja Smith at baylorterp@yahoo.com\u00a0or (512) 736-3407.<\/p>\n
