This is a contract level position and the incumbent can choose a<br \/>\n9 or 10.5 month work schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Position Status<br \/>\nFull-time<\/p>\n<p>Essential Job Functions<br \/>\n&#8211; Teaches courses in the Interpreter Training program primarily ASL courses.<br \/>\n&#8211; Establishes student internship sites within the community.<br \/>\n&#8211; Teaches courses at a variety of times.<br \/>\n&#8211; Serves on college and system committees as required.<br \/>\n&#8211; Serves as a community resource person and represent the college to outside<br \/>\ngroups when requested.<br \/>\n&#8211; Works collaboratively with other faculty, departments and divisions on<br \/>\nschedule development, marketing events, faculty recruitment, hiring,<br \/>\nclassroom observation, student recruitment and retention efforts, budget<br \/>\ndevelopment and special events.<br \/>\n&#8211; Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner.<br \/>\n&#8211; Develops and utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following<br \/>\nestablished institutional guidelines.<br \/>\n&#8211; Advises students in academic matters.<br \/>\n&#8211; Provides timely, quality access to students through posted office hours,<br \/>\nelectronic communication and other appropriate methods.<br \/>\n&#8211; Continuously improves instructional quality by reviewing and utilizing<br \/>\ninnovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods, including<br \/>\ncollaborative learning, learning communities, service learning,<br \/>\ninstructional technology, and online teaching.<br \/>\n&#8211; Responsible for other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Required Qualifications\/Education Campus Specific<br \/>\n&#8211; A Master\u2019s degree in Deaf Education, Deaf Studies, ASL, Special Education<br \/>\n(with appropriate emphasis), Communications (with appropriate emphasis),<br \/>\nBicultural or Bilingual Education, or a Master\u2019s degree with 18 graduate<br \/>\nhours in the above disciplines.<br \/>\nDistance education certification or a commitment to obtain certification<br \/>\nthrough LSCS (or equivalent) within 12 months of employment.<br \/>\n&#8211; Demonstrated interest and\/or experience with interdisciplinary teaching,<br \/>\nservice learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult<br \/>\nlearning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning<br \/>\ncommunities and distance learning.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:<br \/>\n&#8211; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.<br \/>\n&#8211; Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a<br \/>\ndynamic climate for lifelong learning.<\/p>\n<p>Preferred Qualifications\/Education<br \/>\n&#8211; At least 1 to 3 years of relevant teaching experience in related field.<br \/>\n&#8211; Experience using innovative strategies and technology in the classroom.<br \/>\n&#8211; Earned doctorate in deaf education, deaf studies, American Sign Language,<br \/>\nand\/or related area.<br \/>\n&#8211; RID certification.<br \/>\n&#8211; ASLTA certification and\/or TEC-ASL.<br \/>\n&#8211; Community college\/higher education work experience.<br \/>\n&#8211; Bi-lingual.<\/p>\n<p>Special Instructions to Applicants<br \/>\n&#8211; Required Applicant Documents<br \/>\n&#8211; Resume<br \/>\n&#8211; Cover Letter<\/p>\n<p>Contract Position<br \/>\nYes<\/p>\n<p>Job Open Date<br \/>\n05-25-2010<\/p>\n<p>Job Close Date<br \/>\nOpen Until Filled<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Faculty, ASL\/Interpreter Training \u2013 Position Open Position Summary \u2013 Lone Star College System, the fourth largest community college district in Texas, serves the north Houston, Texas region with North Harris, Kingwood, Tomball and Montgomery colleges.
