Assistant Professor\/Associate Professor\/ Professor (American Sign Language – ASL) <\/p>\n
General Description <\/p>\n
Provide educational and professional direction for doctoral level students, master’s level students and undergraduate students\/ teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Deaf Education\/ provide practicum and student teaching supervision for graduate students in Deaf Education\/grant writing and research as desired\/ serve on departmental, college, and university committees. <\/p>\n
Example of Work Performed <\/p>\n
1. E – Advise and counsel undergraduate majors in the American Sign Language program.
\n2. E – Teach undergraduate courses within the American Sign Language program as needs mandate.
\n3. E – Provide professional commitment to direction of students and the American Sign Language programs with the American Sign Language committee and through research and scholarly activities.
\n4. E – Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as necessary.
\n5. E – Conduct research and grant development to meet program needs.
\n6. E – Provide supervision for ASL students in practicum.
\n7. E – Meet other day-to-day responsibilities of the faculty position as necessary. <\/p>\n
General Qualification Requirements:<\/p>\n
Education\/License\/Credentials: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in American Sign Language, ASL Linguistics or related field highly preferred. Recent graduates and ABDs (All But Dissertation) considered. Preference given to candidates certified by a credible ASL licensing agency. <\/p>\n
Experience: Teaching experience and specialization in American Sign Language (ASL). Experience in Bilingual Education (English and ASL). Should have experience working with Deaf students in a K-12 school
\nprogram. Should be knowledgeable of current teaching methodology. <\/p>\n
Knowledge\/Skills\/Abilities: Performance and knowledge base appropriate to responsibilities described above. <\/p>\n
Physical\/Mental Abilities Required: All candidates having the above credentials and skills will be considered. Additionally, candidates must have the: <\/p>\n
* Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors
\n* Ability to come to work in a timely and predictable manner
\n* Ability to tolerate criticism
\n* Ability to tolerate stressful conditions
\n* Ability to follow university policy and procedures <\/p>\n
