Rosenblum Selected As Seventh Chief Executive Officer of the National
\nAssociation of the Deaf<\/strong><\/p>\n

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Board of Directors announces that
\nafter conducting a nationwide search, it has selected Howard A. Rosenblum as
\nits next Chief Executive Officer.<\/p>\n

Mr. Rosenblum comes to the NAD from Equip for Equality in Chicago, Illinois,
\nwhere he was Senior Attorney, and brings nearly two decades of leadership
\nand advocacy experience. Mr. Rosenblum along with all other finalists gave
\npresentations at the 50th Biennial NAD Conference in Philadelphia that can
\nbe found on the NAD website.<\/p>\n

“It is my honor to work for such a historic organization such as the NAD and
\nto work with such a talented and passionate Board of Directors and staff,”
\nsaid Mr. Rosenblum. “I look forward to making a positive difference and to
\ndoing all I can to serve Deaf America and to raising awareness of the deaf
\ncommunity as first-class citizens and contributors.”<\/p>\n

“The Board has full confidence that Mr. Rosenblum has the organizational and
\nadvocacy experience we need as the NAD faces a budget crisis and ongoing
\nredefinitions in national accessibility policies. Equally important, Mr.
\nRosenblum embraces the core values inherent to the NAD – equal access to
\ninformation and to society, communication as a human right, and American
\nSign Language legitimacy,” said NAD President Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins. The
\nBoard looks forward to Mr. Rosenblum’s strong leadership in strengthening
\nour organization’s capacity to advocating for our rights as first-class
\ncitizens and consumers.<\/p>\n

Mr. Rosenblum will become the seventh Chief Executive Officer in the
\n130-year history of the organization, succeeding Nancy Bloch, who took
\noffice in 1992 as the first female CEO in NAD’s history. Ms. Bloch will end
\nher service in March of 2011, having overseen the NAD’s national
\npolicymaking and advocacy efforts in the first few years of the Americans
\nwith Disabilities Act, through the Decoder Circuitry Act of 1996 and through
\nthe nationwide implementation of telecommunications relay services, among
\nother civil rights milestones impacting the deaf and hard of hearing
\npopulations.<\/p>\n

\nThe National Association of the Deaf (NAD) was established in 1880 by deaf
\nleaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community to use sign
\nlanguage, to congregate on issues important to them, and to have its
\ninterests represented at the national level. These beliefs remain true to
\nthis day, with American Sign Language as a core value. As a nonprofit
\nfederation, the mission of the NAD is to preserve, protect, and promote the
\ncivil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf and hard of hearing individuals
