{"id":11176,"date":"2010-07-22T15:22:12","date_gmt":"2010-07-22T20:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=11176"},"modified":"2010-07-22T16:19:02","modified_gmt":"2010-07-22T21:19:02","slug":"ada-anniversary-celebration-and-training-opportunity-austin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2010\/07\/22\/ada-anniversary-celebration-and-training-opportunity-austin\/","title":{"rendered":"ADA Anniversary Celebration and Training Opportunity &#8211; Austin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ADA Anniversary Celebration and Training Opportunity in Austin, Texas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services<\/p>\n<p>Notice of ADA Anniversary Celebration and Training Opportunity in Austin,<br \/>\nTexas<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is cordially<br \/>\ninviting you and staff members from your organization to attend a great day<br \/>\nof FREE accessibility training sponsored by the DARS on July 26th for the<br \/>\n20th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act.<\/p>\n<p>Please be our guests and attend any of the classes and events throughout the<br \/>\nday.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the training offerings include:<\/p>\n<p>* ADA update for supervisors,<br \/>\n* Accessibility Considerations for Training and Presentations,<br \/>\n* Creating Accessible Office 2007 documents,<br \/>\n* Making PDF documents accessible (Intro &amp; Advanced classes),<br \/>\n* Procuring accessible products and services (2 CEU credits),<br \/>\n* Assistive technology lab tours,<br \/>\n* Web accessibility and Web application testing,<br \/>\n* Using the JAWS screen,<br \/>\n* Writing for plain language,<br \/>\n* Disability awareness panel,<br \/>\n* Accessible telecommunications for people who are deaf,<br \/>\n* and even an accessible car show in the nearby parking garage.<\/p>\n<p>The day begins with the governor&#8217;s proclamation ceremony at 9:00 AM in the<br \/>\nDARS Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center Auditorium (4800 North Lamar). Many<br \/>\nstate employees who are attending will be wearing RED to show their support<br \/>\nfor the ADA. The proclamation ceremony will begin with a color guard flag<br \/>\nceremony led by the Disabled American Veterans and the Order of the Purple<br \/>\nHeart. Opening remarks will be given by DARS Commissioner Terry Murphy and<br \/>\nJenny Hall, HHSC Director of Civil Rights and the HHS ADA &#8211; Section 504<br \/>\nCoordinator. A Governor&#8217;s ADA Anniversary Proclamation will be presented by<br \/>\nMr. Allan Babin, Committee Member with the Texas Governor&#8217;s Committee for<br \/>\nPeople with Disabilities. Alan Richard Babin, Jr. of Round Rock is a retired<br \/>\nUnited States Army Veteran medic.
