Notice of ADA Anniversary Celebration and Training Opportunity in Austin,
\nTexas<\/p>\n

The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is cordially
\ninviting you and staff members from your organization to attend a great day
\nof FREE accessibility training sponsored by the DARS on July 26th for the
\n20th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act.<\/p>\n

Please be our guests and attend any of the classes and events throughout the
\nday.<\/p>\n

A few of the training offerings include:<\/p>\n

* ADA update for supervisors,
\n* Accessibility Considerations for Training and Presentations,
\n* Creating Accessible Office 2007 documents,
\n* Making PDF documents accessible (Intro & Advanced classes),
\n* Procuring accessible products and services (2 CEU credits),
\n* Assistive technology lab tours,
\n* Web accessibility and Web application testing,
\n* Using the JAWS screen,
\n* Writing for plain language,
\n* Disability awareness panel,
\n* Accessible telecommunications for people who are deaf,
\n* and even an accessible car show in the nearby parking garage.<\/p>\n

The day begins with the governor’s proclamation ceremony at 9:00 AM in the
\nDARS Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center Auditorium (4800 North Lamar). Many
\nstate employees who are attending will be wearing RED to show their support
\nfor the ADA. The proclamation ceremony will begin with a color guard flag
\nceremony led by the Disabled American Veterans and the Order of the Purple
\nHeart. Opening remarks will be given by DARS Commissioner Terry Murphy and
\nJenny Hall, HHSC Director of Civil Rights and the HHS ADA – Section 504
\nCoordinator. A Governor’s ADA Anniversary Proclamation will be presented by
\nMr. Allan Babin, Committee Member with the Texas Governor’s Committee for
\nPeople with Disabilities. Alan Richard Babin, Jr. of Round Rock is a retired
\nUnited States Army Veteran medic. He was awarded the Bronze Star with \u2018V’
\nfor Valor and the Purple Heart through his service in Iraq.<\/p>\n

The proclamation ceremony will conclude with cake and coffee and an
\nopportunity to network with many of the Americans with Disabilities Act
\ntrail blazers and state accessibility leaders who helped organize the
\nnational passage of the ADA and its implementation to support disability
\nrights in Texas.<\/p>\n
