Competitive Salary with benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Position Title: Sign Language Interpreter<\/p>\n<p>Position Summary:<\/p>\n<p>Interprets and translates spoken language using American Sign Language or<br \/>\nother appropriate manual sign system to provide appropriate educational<br \/>\nbenefits for deaf\/hard of hearing students. Facilitates communication<br \/>\nbetween hearing and deaf\/hard of hearing individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Immediate Supervisor: Not Available<\/p>\n<p>Illustrative Duties:<br \/>\n* Interprets lectures, discussions, announcements, conversations, events,<br \/>\nand other spoken word situations using manual sign system appropriate for<br \/>\nthe language and cultural background of deaf\/hard of hearing students.<br \/>\n* Accurately interprets deaf\/hard of hearing students\u2019 signs, words, and<br \/>\nspeech for other students, faculty, and staff where necessary and according<br \/>\nto the student\u2019s Individual Education Plan (IEP).<br \/>\n* Works with teachers to gain understanding of relevant concepts to better<br \/>\nfacilitate translation for deaf\/hard of hearing students according to the<br \/>\nstudent\u2019s IEP.<br \/>\n* Maintains current and accurate data required for students\u2019 files and IEP.<br \/>\nParticipates in AED\/IEP meetings, teacher\/parent conferences, or other<br \/>\nmeetings as appropriate.<br \/>\n* Communicates with local school staff regarding student\u2019s progress,<br \/>\nabilities, and modifications as appropriate.<br \/>\n* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Position Requirements:<\/p>\n<p>Education:<br \/>\n* High School Diploma or GED<\/p>\n<p>Experience:<br \/>\n* No experience.<\/p>\n<p>Other Requirements:<br \/>\n* TYPE OF SKILL AND\/OR REQUIRED LICENSING\/CERTIFICATION<\/p>\n<p>Chancery<br \/>\nOffice equipment (e.g., computer, copier)<\/p>\n<p>Texas State Permit to provide interpreting or transliterating services; or<br \/>\nNAD (National Association of the Deaf) Level I, II, III, or IV; or RID (<br \/>\nRegistry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certificate of Interpreting, RID<br \/>\nCertificate of Transliterating, RID Comprehensive Certification, or RID CI<br \/>\nand CT.<\/p>\n<p>* LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES<br \/>\nNo supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide<br \/>\noccasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.<\/p>\n<p>* WORK COMPLEXITY\/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT<br \/>\nWork involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks<br \/>\nthat are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and<br \/>\napply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is<br \/>\nprovided on an \u201cas needed\u201d basis.<\/p>\n<p>* BUDGET AUTHORITY<br \/>\nNo budget development activity is required.<\/p>\n<p>* PROBLEM SOLVING<br \/>\nDecisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually<br \/>\nwithin the confines of the job\u2019s own department. Specific job activities and<br \/>\nresults are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for<br \/>\ndeveloping new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services.<\/p>\n<p>* IMPACT OF DECISIONS<br \/>\nFollows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to<br \/>\nHISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made,<br \/>\nwould result in minor expense for correction.<\/p>\n<p>* COMMUNICATION\/INTERACTIONS<br \/>\nInformation sharing \u2013 gives and receives information such as options,<br \/>\ntechnical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are<br \/>\nmostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other<br \/>\ndepartments.<\/p>\n<p>* CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS<br \/>\nFollows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards<br \/>\ndifficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for<br \/>\nresolution.<\/p>\n<p>* WORKING\/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS<br \/>\nWork is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does<br \/>\nnot subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.<br \/>\nAbility to carry and\/or lift less than 15 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>There are several sign language interpreter positions (at 3 different<br \/>\ncampus\u2019s Barbara Jordan, T.H.
